Where dogs walk
Max Starcke Park beside the Guadalupe River

The Guadalupe River runs along the south side of town, and the bottomlands are known for pecan trees. Max Starcke Park has a waterfall, a golf course and paddling trails, Park West is a 47-acre community park with nature trails, and Walnut Springs Park has hiking along an old stagecoach route. Plenty of walking options means plenty of places to rehearse a loose leash.

Seguin sits about 50 miles south of Austin and is served by Interstate 10, with State Highways 46 and 123 crossing town. Owners can reach programs in either big city, and many do. Treat the drive as part of the program. Ask about the best drop-off windows, and whether a trainer will meet halfway for the handoff if you cannot go back and forth easily.

Rivers and lakes mean wildlife, so a solid recall is worth having. Ask how any trainer teaches it, and insist on seeing a description rather than a promise. After your dog returns, rebuild routines in a calm place like your own street. Move to park trails when your dog can pass others without staring or pulling, and always follow the posted rules.
